Making Patterns

We are noticing that alot of things have patterns on them, carpets, tiles, clothes, shoes, toys, wallpaper and lots more.  We had great fun with patterns.  Teacher made a pattern and put it under the visualiser and we tried to copy the pattern. We started with some very simple patterns and then they became more difficult.  We were very good at it but we had to concentrate very hard to get some of them.

Teacher says a big THANK YOU to Eimear who brought in this lovely bunch of daffodils last week on Daffodil Day. 

A visit from Galway's Firefighters

The firefighters came to our school.  They have a very important job and they work very hard. 
They showed us inside their big fire engine and we even got to spray the hose.  The water is very strong and can go very high and far. 

Transport Now and Then

It was not always that easy to travel to places. 

We know that people didnt always have cars and airplanes to get around.  Journeys took much longer and they were not very comfortable.

We learned the name of this funny looking bike.

We compared this picture of one of the first cars ever made to the cars we have today. 

We noticed some very interesting comparisons. 

Ask us who these two brothers are.

Making Rice Crispie Buns

We were learning about things that change in heat, cold and water. 

We learned chocolate melts when heated, it changes shape and texture.

Then when you cool the chocolate it changes again. 

Word Bingo

We have learned alot of words now.  We love to play word bingo with all these words.  We need to listen very carefully to hear the word teacher calls out and then cover it over.  Our favourite bit is shouting BINGO at the end. 

Things that change in water

We learned that alot of things change in different conditions.  Some things melt when they are heated.  Some things turn to a hard substance when cooled, and other things change when the come in contact with water.  We tested a variety of things in water and observed the changes.  Some changed colour, some shape and others texture.

Heavy and light

With lots of practice, we are now very good at picking items that are heavy and light compared to each other. 
Now we are trying to balance the scale with things that way the exact same.  It turns out Alyssa's shoe and Sarah's shoe make our scale balance. 

Storyteller

Today we enjoyed a story from a wonderful story teller.

We are very very proud to have a boy in our junior infant class scoop the prize for best actor.  Tonight darren went to the awards and recieved a lovely trophy.
